On Friday the Related Group threw a grand opening party for Icon Bay Park, the first new park to be built in Edgewater in a really, really long time and the only neighborhood park between Margaret Pace Park and those little scraps of green space leftover between the Julia Tuttle Causeway ramps, a.k.a. Martell Park and Stearns Park. Created through a deal negotiated with the City of Miami, the park is behind and partially underneath Related's Icon Bay condo tower, which is almost finished and was open for preview tours.
Related always throws a good party >>
Designed by ArquitectonicaGEO, the waterfront park packs a lot into a relatively modest size, with art installations by YoungArts Foundation students, a dog park, a bay walk (that unfortunately doesn't connect to anything yet) lawns, and playful landscaping.
The park has the potential to be a real, and necessary neighborhood center. Visually the greensward connects seamlessly with the building's amenity deck and pool. However, the barrier of 'public' (who the park is ostensibly there to serve) and 'residents only' (who will pay for its maintenance) is as strict as ever. It is figuratively and literally Icon Bay's back yard.

Singer-songwriter Phil Collins is the new owner of Jennifer Lopez’s former North Bay Road manse, paying a whopping $33 million for the property.
Healthcare executive Mark Gainor and his wife were the sellers of the waterfront Miami Beach estate at 5800 North Bay Road, according to EWM/Christie’s International Real Estate. EWM’s Nelson Gonzalez represented the couple. Mathieu Rochette of Barclay’s Real Estate Group represented the buyer.
Lopez initially sold the 1.2-acre property in 2005 to Gainor for $13.9 million, according to Miami-Dade property records. Collins closed on the sale on Monday, the Wall Street Journal first reported.
The 12,153-square-foot mansion includes seven bedrooms, eight full baths, three half-baths, a pool and Jacuzzi. It was built in 1929 and features 200 feet of Biscayne Bay frontage.
“This property has long been a standout in the marketplace … and a sale of this magnitude – surpassing the 30-million-dollar threshold – further demonstrates the draw of Miami Beach to interested buyers from across the United States and around the world,” Gonzalez said in a statement.
Earlier this month, famous fashion designer Calvin Klein listed his waterfront Miami Beach home down the road at 4452 North Bay Road for $16 million.

Key Biscayne's Mashta Point Will List for $60-Fricken-Million

Key Biscayne's Mashta Point Will List for $60-Fricken-Million

Mashta Point, originally built by William J. Matheson as his private cove and deepwater anchorage when he owned much of Key Biscayne, is hitting the market for a whopping $60 million, according to the Wall Street Journal. This makes it Mashta Point Dade County's most expensive listing, and will be Miami's most expensive residential sale ever if it gets near its asking price.
Matheson built himself a lavish Moorish house, known as Mashta House, on the southern arm of the cove back in 1917, but it was demolished at some point in the 1950s (coincidentally by Mackle Construction, owned by relatives of Curbed Miami's Editor, Sean McCaughan). Mashta House was known for its fabulous parties, and was said to host the likes of the Vanderbilts, Carnagies, and Mellons during the Roaring 20s, who would alight from their yachts waiting in the cove. In the 1990s Mashta House was replaced by the current house, built on the northern arm of the cove, a 12,000 square foot boxy beige house, with (if we're counting right) five floors, an elevator, six bedrooms, eight baths, a pool, and a gazebo. Of course the real allure of the property is the land, a long hook-shaped peninsula at the tip of Mashta Island, and that cove. Ohhh that cove.
