Miami is anything but magical in terms of places to raise a family, according to a recent study by Apartment List.
The analysis measured 500 cities across four weighted factors: safety (35%), housing cost (30%), school quality (25%), and child friendliness (10%). Wait, "child friendliness?" Did they poll six-year-olds across America and ask them whether they've ever had their lunch money stolen?
Their reasoning for that last and seemingly arbitrary category: "Communities with a greater percentage of children tend to be more child friendly, so we used census data to score cities based on the percentage of the population that’s under 18."
Miami ranked 449th and received an "F" grade, scoring a 49.2 (out of 100) in Child Score. Fort Lauderdale fared worse, ranking 466th.
The top five Florida cities are below.
Texas was heavily featured among the nation's best places to raise a family. Apparently their children are twice as friendly as ours.
