New designs of the planned One Bayfront Plaza in downtown Miami surfaced in December filed by Florida East Coast Realty, calling for 902 apartments, 200 hotel rooms, 532,000 square feet of office space, 103,959 square feet of retail, and over 1,000 parking spaces in a new behemoth tower at 100 South Biscayne Boulevard.
In an interview with Miami Today, via The Next Miami, we learn Tibor Hollo, the founder of FECR, plans to break ground on the 92-story high-rise in January 2019, taking an estimated three years and change to complete.
"This will be the building of the future -- it is totally different,” Hollo said. “We're still building for yesterday, but this building is the future. We're starting on One Bayfront Plaza in January 2019. It's 1,049 feet tall, and if you look at other buildings they look like yesterday. This looks like tomorrow. The whole demeanor of the building will be different.”
Hollo clarified there will actually be 1,052 apartments and 200,000 square feet of retail, with the giant tower connecting to a Metromover station. The design architect is Kohn Pedersen Fox and ODP Architecture & Design is the architect of record.
Miami’s current tallest building is the under-construction Panorama Tower in Brickell, another FECR development, which will rise to 830 feet upon completion and also includes luxury apartments (821 units) in addition to retail, hotel, and office components.
Another planned development expected to rise to the maximum allowed 1,049 feet was recently announced in The Towers by Foster + Partners, with FECR also part of that development team.
