Lapidus' Sixty Nautilus South Beach to Open October 1st.

Sixty Nautilus, originally the Nautilus Hotel designed by Morris Lapiduswill reportedly open October 1st after yet another delay (originally the opening was set for 2014, then Spring 2015, then Summer 2015, and now Fall), says the now-defunct HotelChatter. Arquitectonica is said to be the architect and the decor is by Caroline Giraud-Sukornyk of CG Design.
The 250-room hotel is the 6th location for Sixty Hotels; others are located in New York City and Beverly Hills. The Miami spot will have a "celebrity-chef"-run restaurant (of course), a restoration of Lapidus' "stairway to nowhere," a saltwater pool and hammocks overlooking the beach – a nice touch. Self-described as a "nautical-inspired breezy beach house, "a glamorous residential crash pad" and "unpretentious," the hotel isn't entirely true to Lapidus whose autobiography is titled ''Too Much Is Never Enough;" still, there's no denying it to be a handsome hotel. A rendering of the pool, surrounded by simple, white beach chairs and palm trees, has clean lines with vistas leading straight to the ocean. Another rendering of the lobby has Lapidus flair with unique chandeliers and bold, white columns guiding visitors to a sunken, Mid-century bar. The rooms are fresh and modest with simple furniture, which tie into the nautical theme—the showpiece is the vintage-looking trunk bar—but maybe a bit on the safe side. The whimsical lobby and restaurant steal the show.—Alexandra J Miller
