The rendering above is of the Estates of Acqualina lobby (south tower) designed by Karl Lagerfeld, with the design modeled after a traditional Roman piazza.
The $1.5 billion Sunny Isles development will be Lagerfeld’s first interior design project in the United States.
“Lobbies serve two purposes,” Lagerfeld said. “They are the first impression of a building and a common living room for socializing,”
Images of Roman fountains and arches taken by Lagerfeld will be etched into the lobby’s wall panels, ceiling screens and skylights. The rendering below is of one of Acqualina’s most distinct amenities (though there are many): its speakeasy.
“The lobbies of The Estates at Acqualina will ‘set the stage’ for the most prestigious and fashionable address in America,” said Jules Trump, developer of The Estates at Acqualina. “You will find precious and rare materials, delicate craftsmanship, unerringly and sophisticated style. You’ll also find unexpected and whimsical details that bring a frisson of excitement and delight. This is one of Mr. Lagerfeld’s supreme talents, knowing how to create in a way that is both timeless and of-the-moment all at once.”
Construction on the development is expected to begin late in 2017, with the first phase including the 152-unit South Tower and its 45,000-square-foot amenity complex called Villa Acqualina, which includes a bowling alley and golf simulator among its other surreal offerings.
The North Tower, comprised of 92 units, will rise in Phase II.
